Communication is everything, it's how we talk to each other and communicate our ideas and thoughts, it's how we write letters to people, and how we give people a phone call, or an email or a quick text message. Communication does all this, and we may not think much about it, but communication helps us out tremendously. This all started by mail, just a simple letter that you wrote to someone telling them what was going on, or an important message, or just to say hi. That letter was hand delivered by foot, horse, or a simple sail boat sown stream wherever it was addressed. But then in 1807 Robert Fulton invented the steamboat, so by using steam, which made more power, the boat was able to move upstream without hassle, and letter, and supplies could be delivered up stream. Then by 1870, railroads were big business, and there was more than 53,000 miles of track, and hundreds of different railroad lines. Soon mail was being delivered really fast by trains. But, even though mail was being delivered by railroad, something else was starting to catch on that helped communication even more, this was the electric Telegraph which was invented in 1837 by Samuel Morse. This was even better than mail, a simple message could be tapped out on a telegraph using Morse code, and sent through the lines, which began to cover the whole country, they even started putting Telegraph lines in the ocean. Soon after the railroads became huge, something else even greater than the Telegraph was invented, which we still use to this day, in many, many ways. That is the Telephone, which was invented in 1876, by Alexander Graham Bell. The Telephone was actually able to transmit your voice across wires, and you were able to talk to someone even across the country. This invention was mind blowing, something citizens had never heard of, and never even thought was possible. This was truly a turning point in the history, something that happened before the 20th century that changed the way things happened, and changed the world. Communication is very important, it has helped us through the years in many ways. One situation that was amazing was how important the telegraph was in the civil war, and how it helped warn people about attacks, and inform people about what was going on, and how even Abraham Lincoln used the Telegraph to help his communication in the civil war. Communication has helped our country, the United States of America, significantly as it has grown, and continues to grow through the years.
